No Wake Zones · Gansoft SARL
This policy describes how the No Wake Zones app ("the App") handles data. The App is published by Gansoft SARL ("Gansoft", "we"), Quai du Seujet 30, 1201 Geneva, Switzerland.
The App asks for your device's precise location, "while using the app". It uses it to show your position on the map, to find the rules that apply where you are ("Rule here") and, in navigation mode, to warn you before you enter a speed or restricted zone, including when the screen is off. While navigation mode is on, Android shows a persistent notification (foreground service) and iOS shows the blue location indicator.
Your position is used immediately on the phone to compare it with the zone data stored in the App. It is never transmitted to us or to any third party, and it is not kept in a location history.
Alerts are local notifications, sounds, vibrations and spoken messages produced by your phone (using your device's own text-to-speech engine). No push service is used and nothing is sent to us for an alert.
When you tap "Report a missing or wrong zone", the App opens your email app with a pre-filled message to manatee@gansoft.ch, containing your position, the zone concerned and the App and data versions. You can edit or delete anything before sending. Nothing is sent unless you send that email yourself. If you do, we use it only to check and correct the zone data, and we do not share it.
The App checks for updated zone files on gansoft.ch, at launch and at most once a day, or when you ask. These requests contain no location and no identifier. As with any web request, they reveal your IP address to our web host (Infomaniak, Switzerland), which keeps standard server logs for a limited time; we do not use them to identify you.
Map images are downloaded directly from NOAA (nautical chart) or OpenStreetMap (street map) for the area you view. These providers receive your IP address and the map area requested, under their own privacy policies.
When you tap a point on the map, the App asks NOAA what its nautical chart shows at that point (restricted or caution areas, channels, depth). NOAA receives the point you tapped and your IP address. This is never done with your own position: "Rule here" and navigation mode do not send it. You can turn this off in the App's Settings, under Privacy.
Unless you turn them off (Settings › Privacy › Anonymous statistics; on by default), the App sends usage events to our relay (Cloudflare), which forwards them to Google Analytics 4. They tell us how many people open the App, which screens and features are used, and where something goes wrong.
Subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are sold and billed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never see your payment details or your store account identity; the App only receives confirmation of what you own.
Your settings, the date you accepted the terms, a local copy of your purchase status, downloaded zone data, the random statistics identifier and any statistics not yet sent. Deleting the App deletes them.
The App is not directed at children under 13. It collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
As we hold no data that identifies you, there is usually nothing to access or delete. If you have sent us an email, you can ask us to delete it. For any question, write to us (address below).
If the App's data practices change, this page will be updated with a new date.
