Slack Water – Port Phillip
This policy explains how the Slack Water app ("the App") handles your information. Short version: the App works on your phone, has no account and sends no personal data to us. We don't run a server for it.
None. No account, no sign-in, no advertising, no analytics, no tracking.
Spots you add on the map, tracks you record and anything you import from a GPX file are stored on your phone only. They leave it only when you export them yourself, to the app or person you choose. Deleting the App deletes them.
The App uses your location only when you ask it to: to record a track, or to add a spot where you are. Only while the App is open on screen (it keeps the screen on while recording). Your positions are stored on your phone as part of the track and are never sent to us or to anyone else. The App does not use your location in the background. You can refuse or withdraw the permission at any time in your phone settings; everything else keeps working.
Slack alerts are scheduled on your phone. If you turn them on, the App asks for permission to show notifications. Nothing is sent to us or to a push service.
The yearly subscriptions (Currents and Complete) are sold and billed by the Apple App Store or Google Play. We never see your payment details. The App only receives confirmation that a subscription is active. You can cancel any time in your store account; refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies.
In-app purchases go through Apple or Google. When the map shows background tiles from OpenStreetMap, the tile server sees your IP address, as with any online map. The App contains no advertising network, no social media SDK and no analytics.
With the Complete plan, the App downloads the wind, wave and storm forecast directly from the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA, nomads.ncep.noaa.gov), about every six hours while you use it. The request asks for a fixed area around Port Phillip and Western Port: it contains neither your location nor any identifier. As with any web request, NOAA's servers see your IP address. The forecast is kept on your phone so it works with no reception.
The App collects no personal data from anyone, including children.
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date.
