Florida Inlet Watch

Short version: the App has no account and collects no personal data. It sends anonymous usage statistics (which screens and features are used), which you can switch off in Settings. The only servers of ours it contacts are a statistics relay and a weather relay, used as a fallback (see below).

Information we collect

No account, no sign-in, no advertising, no tracking, no location access. The App sends anonymous usage statistics, described under “Anonymous usage statistics”; you can switch them off in Settings.

Data stored on your phone

• Your settings (units, language, region shown) and the date you accepted the terms
• The last forecast, advisories and NWS forecast text downloaded, so the App can show their age
• Your subscription status (a local copy; the App Store or Google Play is the source of truth)
• The random statistics identifier, the statistics setting and, when offline, up to 200 statistics events waiting to be sent

Deleting the App deletes them.

Where the App downloads data from

The App downloads public data directly from U.S. Government servers: NOAA NOMADS (forecasts), api.weather.gov (National Weather Service advisories and forecasts), the National Data Buoy Center (buoys) and aviationweather.gov (airport observations). Requests ask for fixed areas and stations along Florida's coast: they contain neither your location nor any identifier about you. As with any web request, those servers see your IP address, under their own privacy policies.

Fallback relay: when NOAA NOMADS refuses a phone's connection (it limits requests per network address), the App sends the same forecast request through a relay on gansoft.ch, which fetches the file from NOMADS and keeps it for two days for all users. The relay receives only the weather request. Like any website, our web host may record the IP address of the request in its standard server logs; we do not use it to identify you, track you or link it to anything else.

Anonymous usage statistics

To know which features are used and improve the App, it sends anonymous usage statistics to a relay of ours, hosted by Cloudflare, which forwards them to Google Analytics. They are on by default and can be switched off at any time in Settings › “Anonymous statistics”: the App then sends nothing more and deletes what was not yet sent.

• What is sent: the screens opened (list, inlet, map, settings, subscription screen), the region and inlets opened, how far ahead in the forecast you looked, refreshes and the data sources that could not be reached, subscription screen opened or closed, and subscription purchases, cancellations, failures and restores (plan and free trial only). Also the App version, iOS or Android, the App language, your level of access (free, Live or Pro), height units and whether the device is a tablet.
• The only identifier is a random number created by the App when it is installed. It is not your advertising identifier, not a device identifier, and it is not linked to your Apple or Google account. Deleting the App deletes it.
• Never sent: your location, your name or email, your purchase or account identifiers, or any other personal data.
• Our relay removes your IP address and device details before forwarding; Google only receives the country, worked out by the relay from the IP address, which is then discarded. Google Analytics keeps the statistics for 14 months, with Google signals turned off. They are not used for advertising, not shared and not sold. Google may process them in the United States.

Subscriptions

Subscriptions are sold and billed by the Apple App Store or Google Play. We never see your payment details; the App only receives confirmation that a subscription is active.

Children

The App collects no personal data from anyone, including children; the anonymous statistics described above contain none.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date.
